The Washington, D.C. War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission offers teacher's and student guides (courtesy of the Benjamin Harrison Society) which are designed to be informative (teaching the importance of the War of 1812 and the history of Washington, D.C. preserving and understanding cultural heritage), engaging (providing hands-on activities that allow the students to act and think like archaeologists), and cross-curricular (bringing together skills required in geography, engineering, arts, and reading (the GEARS Project) together with science, social science/history, arts, and language).
